Biography
Robert Bonthron, former IIT faculty member, has a long history with the university. In 1944, Bonthron graduated from IIT with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. In 1952, he graduated with an M.S. in mechanics, and in 1962, with a PhD in that same field. During his time spent at IIT, Bonthron held several positions with the university. From the years of 1947-1961, he was a member of the engineering department faculty, a member of the faculty council, a member of the discipline committee, and the assistant dean of engineering. In 1968, Bonthron accepted the role of dean of students. Bonthron retired in 1991 and is an emeritus faculty member.
