Wayne Kosterman pamphlets, 1980

 Collection
Identifier: 008.05.11

Two brochures on the buildings designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe at 900-910 N. Lake Shore Dr., Chicago (built 1955). The brochures were designed by Wayne Kosterman with the intention of creating pieces that would appear "the way Mies might have if he were a graphic designer," per Kosterman. They serve as documentary pieces concerning the buildings and the art works hung in them.

The first brochure is "Mies and 900-910," a 12-pages (and slipcase) with text by Franz Schulze and images of Mies, his buildings, and reprints of the following articles: "People Who Live in Glass Apartments Throw Verbal Stone at Scoffers," (Abridged), Christian Science Monitor, Sept. 28, 1951; "Chicago Test Boring Mark Set at 137 Ft." (Abridged), Chicago Tribune, March 30, 1955; "Glass Houses Use Up Loads of Concrete" (Abridged), Chicago Tribune, Jan. 30, 1956; "Architect Still is Designing for a Future Civilization" (Abridged), Chicago Tribune, Feb. 18, 1968; "Designs of Influential Architect Are Marked by Versatility," (Abridged), Chicago Tribune, Feb. 25, 1968.

The second brochure, "900-910 Art Collection" by Sondra Ward Eisenberg, contains reproduction of art works and artists' biographies. Female artists included in this work are: Bartlett, Jennifer; Blum, Andrea; Davidson, Nancy B.; Erlebacher, Martha Mayer; McCoy, Ann; Michod, Susan; Riley, Bridget; Rossi, Barbara; Shaw, Cass; Siegel, Irene; Sloan, Jeanette Pasin.
