Biographical Note

The IIT Centennial celebration was held from May 1990 - May 1991 with a series of events and activities, and according to the item catalogued here, the establishment of the IIT Archives. The date actually commemorated is the reported date of the "Million Dollar Sermon" which led to the creation of Armour Institute in 1890, and does not, in fact, represent the centennial date of IIT as it was formed in 1940 by the merger of Armour Institute and Lewis Institute, both of which began in the 1890s.
