Biographical Note
Military training at Illinois Institute of Technology began during World War II, with the Navy V-12 unit as one of its earliest programs. Reserve Officers Training Corps units began after the World War II ended. The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps managed separate university Naval Science Departments at IIT and Northwestern University. The programs qualified students by instruction and training in essential naval subjects to receive commissions in the United States Navy, United States Naval Reserve, United States Marine Corp, or the United States Marine Corps Reserve. In 1993, the two university units were merged to form the NROTC Management Unit (NROTCMU), Chicago Area.
