Eleven audio recordings featuring various Illinois Institute of Technology people and topics. Nine of the recordings are interviews conducted for commercial radio broadcast; tapes were created by and provided by the radio station. The other two recordings were probably made by IIT staff. Tape numbers and descriptions are listed below.

(Begins on cassette with Roy Moore, December 31, 1986 and continues on a 2nd cassette) WGN-AM/Chicago; Radio Broadcast; January 1, 1987; ca. 2 hours (two cassettes) Extension 720 program, hosted by Milton Rosenberg. Live interview discussion of technology issues and predictions for the future. Guests are IIT professors George Craft (Electrical Engineering), Peter Land (City Planning), Charles L. [Chuck] Owen (Design) and David Morrison, President of IITRI. Very useful as a historical document evidencing serious comments and analysis of short-term future predictions by educators and scientists covering both technical possibilities and sociological implications. Brief mention of the House of the Future international competition won by IIT’s Institute of Design team; particularly interesting comments throughout the discussion by Peter Land on the future of residential designs and urban patterns; predictions on directions of computer development; discussion of need for ethics education in technical curricula.

Also comments by Laurie Delton (sp?) and Scott Skipworth who won the “design competition.” The newsstand is described as a “structuralist expression” after Mies van der Rohe. Useful for its entertainment value as well as informational content about a minor academic activity, the type of which is numerous in the institution’s history, but seldom documented.
  6. Dr. Irwin Weber; 9/9/88; WDCB; IIT West; 30 minutes Irwin Weber, Director of IIT West, being interviewed live by Jim Howard on radio program “Mike Line” about the recent announcement that IIT would build a facility in Wheaton, which became the Rice Center campus. P. to impact state and local legislation to promote higher education, particularly for blacks.
  10. Inaugural Speeches Induction of Meyer Feldberg as 5th President of IIT, Sept. 29, 1987; 1 1/4 hr. Weber, (president of Northwestern University). Addresses by Milton Friedman, Nobel Laureate and by alumnus and Meyer Feldberg. Concludes with singing of Alma Mater and benediction by Rabbi N________ N________. Master of Ceremonies, Robert W. Galvin. Tape has a hum throughout, but quality is otherwise very good. Comments by Washington include mention of IIT’s minority programs and affirmative action policy. Feldberg’s comments include remarks about the international design competition in Osaka Japan won by Institute of Design students.
