Abstract

In 1947, Henry Townley Heald was recognized for 20 years of consecutive service to the two schools of Armour Institute of Technology and Illinois Intitute of Technology with the presentation of this platter, engraved with the names of Trustees.

Biographical Note

Henry Townley Heald was president of Armour Institute of Technology from 1937 - 1940, having previously served as a professor of civil engineering and as a dean. He became the first president of Illinois Institute of Technology which was created in 1940 by the merger of Armour Institute and Lewis Institute. He served in that capacity from 1940 - 1952, guiding the new school through its initial period of administrative growth and physical expansion.
