Abstract

Various dances were hosted throughout the school year by the Armour Institute of Technology classes. The Freshman Prom was initiated in 1912 by the Class of 1915. A history of the class is included in 1915 edition of The Cycle (school yearbook), pages 51-52. The 1913 edition contains a recap of their Freshman year activities including the dance (page 79), a photo of the dance booklet appears on page 162.

Armour Institute diploma, 1907

Description of the Collection

Diploma awarded to Charles G. Dreffein, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Armour Institute of Technology, June 13, 1907. The diploma was signed by J. Ogden Armour (President of the Board of Trustees), Fred W. Smith (Secretary of the Board of Trustees), Frank W. Gunsaulus (President of the Institute), Howard M. Raymond (Dean of the Engineering School), and Louis C. Monin (Dean of the Cultural Studies). Vellum affixed with gold leaf (?) seal.

Armour Institute fraternity paddles, 1921

Description of the Collection

Two fraternity paddles from Armour Institute of Technology chapters of Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi. One reads "EKN/E. B. Mueser" (15" x 5"). The other reads "E. B. Mueser"/Dec. 3, 1921" on one side and TBP (in reverse) on the other (15" x 5"). See attached photo.

Armour Institute fraternity pins, 1920-1922

Description of the Collection

Two pins from Armour Institute of Technology fraternities: a diamond-shaped brass (or copper) paperweight from fraternity Eta Kappa Nu reading "EKN" and "AIT 1922," 3½ x 2" x 3" h; and, a round lapel pin reading "The/Cycle/1920"in the center and "Armour Tech" around the edge; ¾" diameter, yellow with black lettering.

Armour Institute music school artifact, 1895

Abstract

Armour Institute of Technology (Chicago) opened in 1892 as "Armour Institute" and incorporated on June 20, 1895 as "Armour Institute of Technology" (but still commonly referred to as Armour Institute). Music, as an academic discipline, was not taught at Armour, but did comprise an active part of the extra curricular activities of the school. Little more is known about the Armour Institute Music School as a distinct entity.

Four pieces of athletic clothing, a embroidered gold letter sweater with "AIT 36," a black and gold sports jersey with gold "A" on front and "7" on back and pin reading "A," a long-sleeve black pullover sweater with gold "A"; reads "A J Jimgles" on inside seam at bottom and a gold jacket with black trim with a "AIT" and "31" in gold; label in pocket reads Chicago Uniform & Cap Co., 5/9/1930."
